Why Sports Injuries Need Specialist Treatment

A sports injury that isn’t properly assessed and treated rarely resolves on its own. Rest may reduce the pain temporarily, but without addressing the underlying mechanical cause — the way you move, the imbalances in your spine and joints, the tissue damage beneath the surface — the same injury will return, often worse.

We see this constantly at Dublin City Chiropractic: athletes who rested, felt better, returned to sport, and re-injured within weeks. The problem was never actually fixed.

Chiropractic care for sports injuries goes deeper than symptom management. We assess how your body is moving, identify what’s causing the injury, correct the underlying problem, and build a rehabilitation plan to prevent it from coming back.

Our Qualifications — Why It Matters

Not all sports injury practitioners are equal. Our chiropractors hold a minimum 5-year full-time postgraduate Masters-level qualification — trained to the highest European and international chiropractic standards, and fully registered with the Chiropractic Association of Ireland (CAI).

This level of training gives us the clinical knowledge to accurately diagnose complex sports injuries, identify serious pathology that requires referral, and deliver evidence-based treatment that gets results.

We have treated athletes at the highest levels of their sport — including Olympians and Champions League competitors — as well as everyday Dublin athletes who simply want to get back to doing what they love.

How We Treat Sports Injuries

Every athlete who comes to us gets a treatment plan built around their specific injury, their sport, their training load, and their performance goals. No two plans are the same.

Step 1 — Assessment A thorough biomechanical assessment covering your injury history, how you move, where the imbalances are, and what’s driving the problem.

Step 2 — Diagnosis A clear, plain-language explanation of exactly what’s wrong and what needs to happen to fix it. If imaging (MRI or X-ray) is needed, we’ll advise you and help arrange it quickly.

Step 3 — Treatment Depending on your injury, treatment may include spinal and joint adjustments, soft tissue therapy, dry needling, rehabilitative exercises, and sports-specific movement retraining. In most cases we begin treatment at your first appointment.

Step 4 — Rehabilitation & Return to Sport We don’t just get you pain-free — we get you back to performing. Your plan will include structured rehabilitation to restore full strength, mobility, and function, with a clear return-to-sport timeline.

The Benefits of Chiropractic for Athletes

Faster recovery Restoring proper spinal and joint mechanics accelerates tissue healing and reduces downtime.

Injury prevention Identifying and correcting movement imbalances before they cause problems keeps you training consistently.

Performance enhancement Optimal spinal function supports better power output, range of motion, and movement efficiency — which is why many elite athletes use chiropractic year-round, not just when injured.

Drug-free treatment No side effects, no masking of underlying problems. Just effective, targeted care.

What Our Patients Say

“I had a recurring hamstring injury that kept stopping me from running. Three different physios hadn’t fixed it. Dr. Patrick identified a lower back issue that was the real cause — within six sessions I was back running pain-free. That was two years ago and it hasn’t come back.” — ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Google Review

“I play GAA at county level and had been dealing with hip pain for most of the season. Dublin City Chiropractic got me back on the pitch in time for the championship. Couldn’t recommend them highly enough.” — ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Google Review

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor for a sports injury? No — you can book directly with us without any GP or consultant referral.

How quickly can I be seen? We aim to see new patients within 24–48 hours. For acute sports injuries, call us on (01) 6444555 and we’ll do our best to fit you in as soon as possible.

Can you treat me while I’m still training? In most cases, yes. We’ll advise you on what activity is safe to continue during your recovery and what to avoid — and we’ll work around your training and competition schedule wherever possible.

Do I need an MRI or X-ray before coming in? No. In most cases a thorough clinical examination gives us everything we need to diagnose and treat you. If we feel imaging is necessary, we’ll advise you and can often help arrange it at short notice.

What if I’ve had the same injury treated elsewhere with no success? This is very common. Many sports injuries are treated in isolation — the painful area — without addressing the underlying mechanical cause. We assess the whole picture, which is often why we get results where others haven’t.
